A TRADE SHOW BOOTH DOESN’T HAVE TO BEHAVE LIKE ONE.
Exploring how ATOMIC modular scenic systems translate into real-world trade show environments.
the challenge
Trade shows are built on pressure. đŹ
Tight timelines. Fixed footprints. No room to fix it later.
Pharos Architectural Controls needed a booth that represented them well on the floor.
Something that felt clear, intentional, and aligned with how they see themselves as a company.
It had to communicate their brand quickly, support real conversations with attendees, and hold up visually in a crowded trade show environment.
And it all had to show up exactly as planned.
No surprises. No last-minute scrambling.
The usual path is custom. But custom comes with tradeoffs:
- High cost per show
- Heavy reliance on external crews
- Limited control once youâre on-site
So instead of rebuilding from scratch, they asked a better question:
Can we get custom-level results with more control and less risk?
THE APPROACH
Control the system. Control the outcome.
This wasnât about limiting the design. It was about simplifying how it comes together.
From the start this was a hands-on collaboration between the Pharos team and ATOMIC Europe, not just designing something that looked good, but figuring out how it would actually work in the real world.
There was a lot of back-and-forth:
- How clean can we get the visual finish?
- Where will connections show up, and how do we minimize that?
- How does this actually go together on-site?
No assumptions. No âweâll figure it out laterâ. They tested it, adjusted it, then tested it again to make sure it all worked.
“The testing process made a big difference. Everything fit perfectly, down to the millimeter. “
Marco Caamano Pharos Marketing ManagerTHE SOLUTION
Modular structure. Designed like a custom build.
The final booth combined ATOMIC Modular Systems with design choices tailored to Pharosâ branding and messaging:
- SuperWall for architectural structure and presence
- SEG graphics on SuperFrames for seamless, high-impact branding
- Custom graphic panels aligned to Pharos messaging
- L-shaped layout to define space and guide flow
And this is where it gets interesting. Because the goal wasnât just to âuse modular.â It was to make sure it didnât feel modular. And this wasnât a plug-and-play use of the system. ATOMICâs modular approach needed to fit the realities of a trade show environment.
So they adapted the system to meet trade show constraints and pushed the details:
- Large-format SEG graphics created a clean, uninterrupted surface
- Panel colors and graphics hit brand standards exactly
- Custom corner solutions reduced visible connectors and visual noise
And when the structure needed to disappear a bit?
- Fabric elements were introduced to soften the look
- Design decisions balanced polish with what actually works on a show floor
No kit-of-parts energy.
No obvious compromise.
This wasnât a new system.
It was an existing one… adapted physically, visually, and operationally to perform in a different environment.
THE execution
Fewer moving parts. More confidence. Because if you canât install it cleanly, none of this matters.
Trade shows are not where you figure things out on-site. By the time Pharos got to the floor, they already knew the build would work. Their booth hadnât been just designed in theory â it had already been pressure-tested against real trade show conditions.
- Pre-show test builds validated every detail
- The Pharos team handled setup directly
- The install followed a clear, repeatable process
On the floor, that meant:
- Faster load-in with fewer cases to manage
- No waiting on external crews
- Clear setup logic
- No rigging required, which made venue compliance easier
And that confidence shows up in ways you donât always plan for. Less stress during the install. More focus on the actual event. A team that knows their space inside and out.
WE DON’T HAVE TO WAIT ON CONTRACTORS. WE JUST SHOW UP AND GET TO WORK.

the tradeoffs
What changes when you stop building from scratch?
Modular isnât custom. And itâs not trying to be. There were real considerations:
In this build, the differences showed up in a few very real ways:
- Storage wasnât built into the structure, so it had to be planned into the layout instead of hidden inside it
- The Pharos team took on more of the setup, trading contractor dependency for control over how everything came together
- Some system elements remained visible, which meant design decisions had to work with the system, not against it
None of these were surprises. They were part of the conversation early, tested in advance, and designed around before the show.
And importantly, none of them changed what actually matters on the floor:
- The team felt confident standing in it and starting conversations
- The booth read clearly from a distance
- The brand showed up the way it was supposed to
“As long as the branding is clear and the stand is well presented, thatâs what matters.”
Marco Caamano Pharos Marketing Managerthe OUTCOME
What actually happens when the booth does its job?
The booth showed up exactly how it was intended.
Clean. Clear. Brand-right.
No surprises during install. No scrambling to fix details. The team walked in already knowing what they had, because they had already built it, tested it, and worked through it ahead of time.
And that changed how they showed up on the floor.
Instead of troubleshooting it, they were present. Instead of adjusting the space, they were using it.
- Conversations started without friction
- Messaging landed quickly
- The booth supported their interactions instead of getting in the way
It didnât need to fight for attention.
It just needed to make sense.
And it did.
It held its own on the floor.
It represented the brand the way it was meant to.
And it gave the Pharos team a space they could confidently operate from.
EVERYTHING PERFORMED EXACTLY HOW WE EXPECTED. THERE WERE NO REAL SURPRISES.
