While athletes at the 2024 SBD World’s Strongest Man (WSM) competition lift heavy objects, ATOMIC’s Production Services will bulldoze mountains to ensure an epic event.
The Strongest Production Services TEAM
The production team returned to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the second year in a row to produce WSM. The competition is designed to test both the athletes’ physical and mental strength across a variety of events and is equally physically and mentally demanding for those who prepare the events.
Our diligent Production team must tackle the hefty list of essentials to deliver an unrivaled experience for all spectators, participants, and support crews. The team set out on this year’s expedition wiser and with a fierce sense of determination to make the 2024 competition greater and more improved than last years’ experience.
The preparation that is involved in this event at a glance:
- Site planning and activation
- Budgeting
- Sponsorship integration
- Competition equipment storage & handling
- Athlete management
- Media coverage
- Event safety
- Catering
- Travel
- And so much more!
This year was the first time since 1977 that the main events were ticketed, giving the option of general admission (GA) or VIP tickets. This decision brought on the task to provide seating areas for ticket holders and a VIP area that included exclusive benefits, like:
- Private tented reception area with refreshments, snacks, h’ordeuvres, etc.
- Q&A with Athletes
- Photo opportunities with athletes and trophy.
- Tip-up seats located in the first five rows of the bleacher seating.
- Private trailer restrooms.
Fan Fest remained available to all for free! The area included:
- Sponsored vendors to showcase their products and services.
- WSM merchandise store – decked out in ATOMIC Modular Systems product to display the merch and prices.
- Picnic area with a large LED screen to view the competition events accompanied by a stage for meet and greets and fun and games
- And can’t forget a selection of food trucks!
Ticket holders made their way through Fan Fest to the competition area that involved:
- Building the competition stage boarded by LED field boards that displayed custom graphics for each event.
- Assembling two sets of bleachers that held up to 1,278 people.
- Positioning two camera stations located at the South and the West sides of the stage.
- Sectioning off an athlete holding area.
- Allocating areas for scoring, audio, video control stations and ever important equipment and competition teams.
- Storing competition equipment.
Within the competition, our Production crew enlisted our Custom Fabrication, Design and Modular Systems teams to be a part of the fun – making this a project that touched every department at ATOMIC!
- The Custom Fabrication team was responsible for fabricating large accent pieces that could be incorporated onto existing competition equipment, including:
- The two dazzling globes that were situated on the Viking Presses
- Reign Total Body Fuel’s piece on Conan’s Wheel
- Custom printed Modular System SuperLever panels were incorporated into the WSM merchandise store used as product displays and pricing boards.
- We even brought in some ATOMIC Homes artists to help paint the kegs used in the Keg Toss – where a new world record was broken not by one strongman but three!

This truly is only scratching the surface of all the details that are demanded of producing an event of this magnitude. The Production crew worked tirelessly to guarantee a professional and fantastic event. Congratulations to everyone involved in this monumental project!
