ATOMIC’s Custom Fabrication team was tasked with creating a unique octagon-shaped plexiglass set piece for Camila Cabello’s emotionally charged performance of “Godspeed” at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
Our team built custom decking pieces to surround a turntable, which gave the set piece its distinctive octagonal shape, as well as eight plexiglass windows, one of which acted as a door to allow entry for Camila and the camera crew. Additionally, the set piece seamlessly integrated with lighting, enhancing the visual impact of the performance. Finally, our soft goods team stitched a fabric topper for the piece that worked well with lighting to create a glow. With cameras capturing every angle up close, the finishes needed to be top-notch and our team certainly delivered.
Inside the set piece, Camila performed with raw emotion, working a camera set up on a tripod as she sang directly to millions of viewers at home. The set played a central role in heightening the intensity of the song, culminating in a dramatic moment when she smashed a laptop, adding emotional weight to the performance.
ATOMIC was honored to be part of this unforgettable performance, collaborating with an awesome team to help bring Camila’s vision to life on one of music’s biggest stages.
