Description

It was a day filled with sneakers, an NBA all-star and lots of inspiration. The LeBron 13 launch took place in Akron, OH in a tiny venue with three separate events marking the bakers dozen milestone for LeBron James’ eponymous footwear line.  At James’ request, Nike, ATOMIC and Game 7 planned the event in his hometown at The University of Akron’s EJ Thomas Hall. Our Production Services, Design, Set Construction and Rental teams were all involved with this multi-faceted launch day. Utilizing many of our tools in the metaphorical toolbox, the Production Team helped develop, create and produce three distinct events in one day.

The first event of launch day was a design inspiration panel hosted by Kristen Ledlow with James and Kevin Dodson, VP of Design at Nike.  The 75 local and national media in attendance were then able to take part in a brief Q&A with all three panelists, before some select one on one interviews.

The next, and perhaps most inspiring, part of the day was a workshop hosted for kids from the Lebron James Family Foundation who were selected to participate based on their artistic merit.  The lucky kids worked with Nike designers to sketch some inspiration art for future LeBron collections.  The kids were taught basic apparel and footwear design principles, how to choose materials and how to look at design from both a structural and creative stand-point – and got a surprise visit from King James, himself.

The LeBron 13 launch day events culminated in celebration for 3,000. The set that the ATOMIC team designed and built with custom elements and Rental Solutions’ Comb and Hive SuperLever panels provided the perfect, intimate backdrop that blended well with the Lebron 13 aesthetic for this evening event. LeBron truly inspires and gives back to his hometown community like no other all-star – and this generosity and community commitment was highlighted with performances from dancers and DJs, a new poem from esteemed poet Lemon Andersen and a finished with a Q&A session with LeBron himself.

ATOMIC was happy to have all hands on deck and produce another successful Nike launch event.
