Thousands of fans gathered on Central Park’s Great Lawn to participate in the seventh annual Global Citizen Festival. Put on for a good cause each year, the show acts as a benefit concert aimed towards ending extreme global poverty. The 2018 festival brought on top-notch performers including Janet Jackson, The Weeknd, Cardi B and Shawn Mendes. Those who couldn’t make the event in person were able to stream it live, adding an impressive addition of eyes to this year’s set.
ATOMIC Designer Andi Blady was tasked with creating a look for the stage that incorporated the iconic Global Citizen red portals. A new upstage portal screen surround and downstage circle portal were built by our Set Construction team and given a new paint treatment, giving them a fresh look while keeping with the iconic look. These new portals were designed to load-in quickly and efficiently, keeping labor costs down for the benefit event.
Overall, the stage looked great and the amazing talent kicked it out of the ball park with awesome performances! This design wouldn’t have been possible without our fantastic client and partners: David Beame and the entire Global Citizen Team, DPS and Lighting Designer Zack Guthimiller.
