SEASONAL Scenic Artist

A Scenic Artist at ATOMIC loves to paint, let’s start there. Life in our paint shop changes with every project. Some projects require techniques to create texture, illusion and uniformity; others are heavy on spraying for coverage. And, when we’re REALLY having fun…we’re slinging paint to create sweet high-end scenic art. Position Objective
Paint and finish scenic elements based on a plan drawing or request within the given timeline.
The general timeline of this temporary position is November 4th through May 30th.
Core Responsibilities
- Prep, paint and finish scenic elements to meet ATOMIC and client standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized paint floor.
- Clean and maintain all paint department tools.
- Keep accurate records of inventory usage.
- Ensure scenic elements are removed from paint floor, properly prepared and delivered as specified.
- Produce high quality paint finishes in short timelines.
- Contribute to the development of a safety culture.
Organizational Relationships
- The Seasonal Scenic Artist reports to the Paint Shop Lead.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of theater terms and procedures.
- Able to use techniques to create texture, faux finishes, illusion and uniformity.
- Some knowledge of foam preparation and carving is helpful.
- Solid knowledge of paint shop tools and supplies.
- Experience with rolling, brushing required. Airless spraying and HVLP experience helpful, but not required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong time management skills.

- Ability to read drawings and ground plans.
- Ability to read designer paint renderings, moving from research to a “show finish.”

Credentials & Experience
- Scenic Artist or a Fine Arts background preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Those necessary for general warehouse work.
- Overtime and weekends will be required, sometimes on short notice.
Work Environment
- Typical manufacturing environment for the majority of the time.
